What Does a School Counselor Do?

School counselors follow state standards and guidelines in the same way that classroom teachers and other education professionals reference and adhere to standards.  School counselor activities fall under three domains as outlined by the American School Counselor Association:  Academic Development, Social / Emotional Development, and Career Development. These domains promote mindsets and behaviors that enhance the learning process and create a culture of college-, career-, and life-readiness for every student.

The Park View Elementary School Counseling Program Includes:

  • classroom lessons
  • individual and small group instruction
  • leadership activities (i.e., Junior Beta Club, student leader of the month recognition, etc.)
  • ADD/ADHD evaluations
  • behavior modification
  • conflict resolution
  • emotion regulation
  • friendship and antibullying
