Music

"Real art is one of the most powerful forces in the rise of mankind, and he who renders it accessible to as many people as possible is a benefactor of humanity."
--Zoltán Kodály
A high-quality elementary music program helps children grow not only as musicians, but also as creative thinkers and confident learners. In Tennessee, music education is a required part of the K–8 experience and follows state standards that focus on singing, playing instruments, reading music, and understanding how music connects to culture and history (Tennessee Department of Education, 2016). These standards are supported by national guidelines from the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which promote hands-on learning through creating, performing, and responding to music in age-appropriate ways (NAfME, 2014). A strong school music program introduces students to a wide variety of musical experiences and helps build important life skills like teamwork, discipline, and self-expression—laying a foundation for a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
At Park View Elementary School, students in kindergarten-fifth grade receive regular music instruction on a rotation with other special school programming.
