University of TN at Chattanooga: B.S. in Elementary Education
Tusculum College: M.A. in Education
I have lived in Bradley County my whole life. I attended Black Fox Elementary, Bradley Junior High, and Bradley Central High School. My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Nancy Block, inspired me to become a teacher. My high school accounting teacher, Mrs. Pat Minor, sparked my interest in business. My first year of college, I majored in Business Administration and Accounting. I eventually realized that I was meant to become a teacher instead of a "number cruncher" and changed my major to elementary education.
My first teaching position was at Westside School in Athens, TN. While in Athens, I taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Westside placed a strong emphasis on incorporating technology into the classroom. As a result, I gained many valuable teaching experiences in Athens.
I later returned to Bradley County to teach at Oak Grove Elementary. I fell in love with teaching 3rd grade. That will always be my favorite age group to teach!
After eight years at Oak Grove, I was able to become a technology coach. I have found that this is a position that brings new challenges every day. There's never a dull moment! I'm so excited about all of the new technology that is coming to our school system. It's exciting to think about how far we have come...from Apple IIe computer labs in the late 80's to interactive whiteboards, mounted projectors, and multitudes of online programs to enhance instruction.
