PE with Coach Cowell

Welcome to Our Physical Education Program!

At Park View, we believe that physical activity is an essential part of every child's growth and development. Our PE program is designed to help students build foundational movement skills, develop a love for physical activity, and cultivate healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We focus on nurturing each child’s physical, social, and emotional well-being through fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities.

Various sports activities.

Key Components of Our PE Program:

  1. Movement Skills

Our program emphasizes the development of fundamental motor skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing. Through fun games and activities, students improve their locomotor skills (like skipping and hopping) and non-locomotor skills (such as bending, twisting, and stretching). These skills form the foundation for more complex movements and sports as they grow older.

  1. Fitness and Physical Health

We focus on developing the cardiovascular endurance (heart and lung health) of students through active games like running and jumping. Students also engage in exercises to build muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Activities such as stretching and bodyweight exercises help children understand the importance of staying active and keeping their bodies strong and healthy.

  1. Teamwork and Social Skills

Physical Education isn’t just about moving the body—it’s about building social skills too. Our students practice leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving through group games and team sports--sometimes through activities as simple as tossing a hoop with a partner. We practice leadership through offering students the opportunity to lead movement and exercise activities. We emphasize sportsmanship, teaching kids to respect others, celebrate effort, and handle both winning and losing with grace. PE also encourages children to resolve conflicts peacefully and work together to achieve common goals.

  1. Games and Sports

Our PE program introduces students to a variety of team sports, helping them develop coordination and collaboration skills. We also offer opportunities for students to try individual activities like running. For those who enjoy something a little different, we include non-traditional activities—like Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart)—working on self-improvement, achievement, and goals.

  1. Cognitive Learning

In PE, we teach students the rules and strategies of games, helping them understand the importance of fairness and planning. We also educate students on safety practices such as warming up, cooling down, and using proper techniques to prevent injuries. Alongside physical skills, students are introduced to basic concepts of nutrition and hydration, learning how these habits contribute to overall health and well-being.

  1. Emotional and Mental Well-Being

Physical activity is a powerful tool for fostering positive mental health. In our PE program, children develop self-confidence through success in both individual and team challenges. Physical activity is also a great way to relieve stress and improve mood, and we make sure students understand how exercise can help them feel their best. By celebrating effort and growth, we encourage a positive mindset, where challenges are seen as opportunities to learn and improve.

  1. Inclusive Activities

We strive to make sure every student has the opportunity to participate, regardless of ability level. Our program is designed to be inclusive, with modifications made to games and activities to ensure all children can join in and have fun. We offer a variety of activities, from cooperative games to individual activities to dancing and running, to cater to different interests and abilities, ensuring every child finds something they enjoy.
